GABBEH LORI WOOL AREA RUG
- $ 399.00
You can't get any more natural than this. In Persian language the word Gabbeh means something raw or natural, uncut or "in the rough". Truly nomadic Gabbeh Rugs are specially knotted for Day to Day use. Although it is not made in America, it does have Country charm. This rug would be a welcome addition to Rustic or Log Cabin Home Decor.

Fine Wool Area Rugs and American Home Decor Items, Product Reviews and Reports

The Average American Home Decor is truly Eclectic in Style. Americans are a unique multi-culture, and this is reflected in the style of home decor products they choose for their home. We hate to be "pigeon holed" into one specific category of Style and we celebrate home decor that reaches across cultures and traditional Style Structures. "Eclectic" is the term that best describes a person that is willing to mix many styles of decor to produce a cohesive and beautiful variety of home decor items. Eye-Popping Home Decor demands the use of Fine Quality Wool Area Rugs. Most web sites overwhelm you with thousands of low quality area rugs . I beleive there is a better way. We will only offer you an Exclusive Selection of Quality Wool Rugs, not museum quality that will cost a fortune, but a fine quality rug that will give you good value for the dollar you spend. The selection of rugs we offer have timeless design and complimentary colors. These rugs will look just as great with your current design scheme as they will for your future home decor needs because they are made from one hundred percent New Zealand Wool. (The most sought after wool on the planet). Most of our rug designs are not dependant on current fads in interior design and home decor. Rugs that are relevant now, and forever. These timeless rugs are meant to stand the test of time with rugged, dependable and easy to clean fiber. Aimed at the average American household, you can count on our rugs to give you comfort, value and dependability to last a lifetime at about the same price you would pay for a quality synthetic fiber rug. Ecologically Freindly to the Environment as they are to the family, our rugs are truly a "Green" product. Not because they are recycled from man-made inferior content, but because they are made from the high quality wool fiber that nature provides. The natural durability of wool resists matting, crushing and stains (and will not damage any flooring that they cover). This is truly the rug selection you hoped you would find on the Internet. Not too pricey, not too many. Not too uppity not too crass, just the right selection for your American home decor needs.
People are always more important than products, and you deserve the best we can offer.

Why we are Adamant about Fine Wool Fiber Rugs
With so many fiber options on the market, why should I choose wool for my Floors or Area Rug? While it is true that there are many synthetic yarn fibers that will suffice for your home design needs, the reason becomes somewhat clear when you keep in mind that all man made fibers are basically “Plastic” (crude oil based) and that means that they are not as environmentally friendly as wool. Wool is a 100 percent natural fiber that is made from the fleece of a sheep (although wool from other animals, such as Alpaca, is often passed off as sheep's wool). Most good quality wools that are used to make rugs in the far-east and middle-east are now imported from New Zealand. The sheep in New Zealand have been bred for hundreds of years to insure that they produce "Carpet Grade" Wool Fiber. Great care is taken to maintain or improve these genetic characteristics.
If you care about such things (as we all should), Australian wool has had a bad name for quite some time now because of their shearing techniques and the deliberate harm it does to the animal. I won’t go into the graphic details as I am merely making a comparison of wool vs. man-made fibers. It is nonetheless a gruesome tradition.
So the first positive for using wool fiber for your rug choice is that it is a natural, animal friendly and environmentally friendly fiber.
When we compare wool to other natural fibers we also find some distinct advantages. Cotton is a natural fiber. Cotton rugs a fine for low traffic areas that are not susceptible to stains. Cotton does not resist stains the way that wool does (more about this in a moment) and has a tendency to pack down or flatten out in high traffic areas. Some types of cotton rugs are handy though. If you have a small, low, tight pile cotton rug without a secondary backing on it, it can just be washed in the washing machine. Or hand washed and pinned on the clothes line to dry. But for larger area rugs this is not exactly practical.
Wool is the king of natural fibers when it comes to stains. The natural oils in the fleece itself naturally repel staining. That is not to say that is stain proof, no fiber is stain proof. However it is more resistant to stains than other natural fibers and this is due to those naturals oils such as lanolin, cholesterin and keratin. Lanolin and cholesterin help naturally repel stains to the fibers of a rug and keratin is the natural preening oil that is found on bird feathers that keep them dry when it rains and also inhibit the growth of microbes and fungus. Nevertheless some people are allergic to wool so if you have found this to be true of yourself, a wool rug, of course would not be the best product for you. Good Quality Nylon Rugs come closest to the durability and cleanabilty of wool, they are not a Natural Fiber and they are not as ecologically friendly, but they are the only decent choice for those that are allergic to wool. It is best to stay away from other synthetic fiber rugs such as, Polypropylene, Olefin, Acrylic and old style Polyesters. These rugs are usually low cost and low quality and may cause harm to the flooring that they cover. Rugs made of these synthetic (petroleum based) fibers are the ones most responsible for the type of problems you will read about on this web site. Matting, Crushing, Edge-Curling and Bunching to name a few, as well as damage to expensive Vinyl, Hardwood, Laminate and other Hard-Surface Floorings.
Wool is also highly resistant to crushing or flattening. That makes it a great rug to use in high traffic areas in your home. Most inexpensive rugs are made from synthetic fibers like olefin or polyester and these rugs will crush down in just a short amount of time. The most popular rug for bathrooms is the fuzzy, polyester rug with a latex backing. This particular rug is a crime against nature. They do not last long, they are horrible to try to vacuum (if you have to get down on the floor and pick out the dirt and lint from your rug with tweezers… (Well, most of you know what I am talking about). You gain no advantage if you constantly have to buy new cheap rugs to replace the crushed, matted and bunched ones you already have. Then we also have to contend with the latex backing which (some will say) was designed with your safety in mind, to keep the rug from sliding around in a wet environment. But there is a trade-off. This same latex does not allow your floor under the rug to breathe. I have seen many, many expensive floors ruined because someone put a cheap latex-backed rug on top of them. This is the same rug that they thought would help save the expensive flooring. Spend that little bit extra to get a wool rug with a standard backing or no backing at all and you will have a rug that holds its shape and looks good for a longer period of time.
So there you have my opinion on why wool is better. It is natural. It resists staining. And will hold up to the traffic of a busy household far better than most other fiber choices for a long time to come.
Choosing a cut-pile area rug that has a high PPI (points per square inch) or PPM (points per square meter) and fibers of at least 12mm to 14mm (or more) in height will insure the rug stays in place (no creeping), and will not wrinkle, bunch and exhibit edge-curl the way many synthetic fiber rugs often do. Area rugs of this caliber will seldom need a Rug Pad.
If you do need the extra density of a rug pad for situations such as an area rug over deep pile wall-to-wall carpet, or to protect the polyurethane finish on a hardwood floor, always use an all-felt or synthetic felt rug pad which allows moisture and gasses to pass through and dissipate. A dense felt pad will also help with bunching at the points in the rug where furniture legs or feet cause pressure over deep-pile wall-to-wall carpeting. This type of rug pad is also much less likely to cause chemical reactions which may result in yellowing or staining of hard-surface flooring (see our Area Rug FAQ for more info).

What is Fine Wool? The Fine Wool standard we use in reviewing and offering area rugs on this web site are based upon a Fine Wool definition that comprises the use of "live wool" Fleece that is shorn from Sheep that have been specifically and genetically bred to produce "Carpet Grade" Wool. Along with Extra-Fine Wool that is shorn from certain areas of the sheep (such as the shoulder area). This is much the same as humans who have courser hair on various parts of their body and finer hair on their head (the hair on my head is much less course as the hair that comprises my mustache). Or you may think of it in terms relating to cuts of meat. Meat from certain areas of cattle are course and chewy, while prime-cuts are fine and tender,

Color is a very basic design tool, yet it allows you great latitude in your design scheme. Color can also be deceptive if we merely consider base colors. Think deeper into color to acheive best results in home decorating. For example:
Lavender is considered to be a feminine color- but deepen that color to plum and it becomes masculine and sultry.
Dark blue can be perceived as masculine- lighten that color to baby blue and the quality changes entirely. Consider tones and hues of color and feel free to use our color tools under the heading of choosing color.
