I have watched the color pallette for flooring change over the past few years. Primary colors that were vibrant and bright have been replaced with more Muted and Rich colors with a lot of greens and golds being used in the carpet industry and other industries as well, such as paint and fashion. I have embraced this change, perhaps because I am male, I prefer Deep, Rich Tonal qualities.
However, not everyone agrees with me. My elderly clients are not happy with this change. Many of my clients are not ready to embark on a complete redecoration. They merely wish to re-new their flooring and can become quite frustrated that the base colors they used 5 to ten years ago have a differing quality. However, be not dismayed most homes will merely require some extra thought and a cursory change of accessory items. For those of us who are young and willing, we are more than happy to go shopping for new window treatments, throw pillows, area rugs and like items. This seeming dilemma brings a shear delight to the younger women in my family who gleefully head for the nearest chain-store in search of "saving me money, because they bought it on SALE" but for the elderly this is just a problem. Please remember this when your elder friends and family need to make changes that are not really welcome. The only greater joy than successfully decorating our home is to help others overcome their challenges with color change. Perhaps you can buy them a new cover for their sofa or a new window treatment. This will go far in removing the frustration they feel when the store just does not have the same thing in the same color that they had before... because ""they never wanted to redecorate, they only wanted it to look new and clean again"".
